Let's Help Wikipedia -Wikimedia's Direct Email to YoursTruly

Dear rojen,

As someone who’s given to the Wikimedia Foundation in the past, you know that our incredible community is funded by individual donations from people across the globe. We'll never run ads, collect profits, or compromise our independence.

We’re counting on you to keep it that way. You make it possible for Wikipedia and its sister sites to stay free of charge and free to be improved by anyone, anywhere.

For our past annual fundraisers, we've relied entirely on website banners, but we're trying something new this year. We’re turning to those who have donated in the past and asking you to lead the way in 2010.

For the first time ever, I’m writing to ask if you can help get our efforts off to a strong start.

Can you make a donation of $50 or more to fund the work of the Wikimedia Foundation?

If you've already given this year, thank you very much for your support and please share your feedback on our campaign.

Below is an updated version of our annual fundraising message that went up this week. We’re going to be tweaking and improving this as we go along, but I want to know what you think.

In keeping with the open spirit of our community, we’re tracking all of our fundraising efforts online. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the message below and any other ways you think we can reach our goal to keep Wikipedia and its sister sites strong and independent.

Jimmy Wales

Here’s what our website fundraising banners say:

Please read: A personal appeal from Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales

And here’s our new fundraising message:

I got a lot of funny looks ten years ago when I started talking to people about Wikipedia.

Let’s just say some people were skeptical of the notion that volunteers from all across the world could come together to create a remarkable pool of human knowledge – all for the simple purpose of sharing.

No ads. No agenda. No strings attached.

A decade after its founding, nearly 400 million people use Wikipedia and its sister sites every month - almost a third of the Internet-connected world.

It is the 5th most popular website in the world - but Wikipedia isn’t anything like a commercial website. It is a community creation, written by volunteers making one entry at a time. You are part of our community. And I’m writing today to ask you to protect and sustain Wikipedia.

Together, we can keep it free of charge and free of advertising. We can keep it open – you can use the information in Wikipedia any way you want. We can keep it growing – spreading knowledge everywhere, and inviting participation from everyone.

Each year at this time, we reach out to ask you and others all across the Wikimedia community to help sustain our joint enterprise with a modest donation of $20, $35, $50 or more.

If you value Wikipedia as a source of information – and a source of inspiration – I hope you’ll choose to act right now.

All the best,

Jimmy Wales

Founder, Wikipedia

P.S. -- Wikipedia is about the power of people like us to do extraordinary things. People like us write Wikipedia, one word at a time. People like us fund it, one donation at a time. It's proof of our collective potential to change the world.

If you have any thoughts on the letter, please send me an email.

Make a donation to give our 2010 fundraising campaign a strong start.

Website Traffic Boosters: Entrecard, Trafficg Traffic Exchange and Naturally Google Search Engine!

Boosting the webbiestuffs traffic to be in a very good position after a couple of weeks requires not only effort but also in-depth understanding and analysis. It was a good experiment for web/internet/computer-niched blog: to see a traffic rank of one million++th rank go up below 400Kth rank after 3 weeks! What helped me? It was not easy nor simple of course! However, it gives a great deal of sense of achievement and at the same time more knowledge about blogging.
http://www.webbiesttuffs.com traffic overview by Alexa as of 13 November 2010
First, let make this clear first: Website Traffic IS NOT EVERYTHING! Neither is Google Page Rank!

As repeated many times, what your purpose and priority for your website depends entirely upon you. Since it happened that this blog has achieved in oneof its goals, on having a better web traffic rank, maybe other would like to know how it was done too. Thus, this article shares this experiences.

A. Entrecard
To help this website/blog achieved its better traffic goal, various actions were done (and still being practised at the moment). One of them is to use the services of Entrecard. Entrecard offers free services to use its resources in exchanging traffic. This allowed me on the average to get around 100-175 visits per day. This is the good thing.

Entrecard is NOT all good though. What I have noticed to be the disadvantage of utilising entrecard these days is mostly on the issue of the quality of the traffic one gets: The person stays too short in your site and the visitor does not open any other pages at all! Bounce rate is just too high and too short stay for each visitor.

One very bad thing also about Entrecard these days is the fact that somepeople have five or more accounts! This means that the traffic you get back is 5 times from the same IP: 5 lowquality traffic. On the side, Entrecard still help theblog get more audience and improve the blog's "numbers".
These widgets from www.webbiestuffs.comarenot for display alone. They serve very good traffic analysis and at the same time can boost one's traffic if utilized wisely.

Like Entrecard, TrafficG is another tool in promoting one's website traffic. Entrecard and TrafficG utlize different styles for their users but the end result is the same: easy traffic exchange at lesser time possible and to promote the web site to other users. The same pitfalls as Entrecard: lower quality traffic.

C. Google Search Engine
Onegood waw of having a better website traffic is through Google search results. As of 9AM in my local time (Amsterdam), I had 13 hits from Google. They termed it "organic" as no one actually promoted to this visitor to visit here. These are the better quality traffic but not all the time: if the searcher is interested in your very article, that visitor will leave your site immediately also and it is another case of bounced traffic. The good thing is, these visitors are usually the ones who click your related posts and paid ads!

These is thehisat analysis of visitors from Search Engine(s)

Staying in the Blogsphere since 2007, I still have alot to learn. Having all these observations and knowledge in your Webbielady's head does not hurt though. So it's good.

The end point is: As long as you are happy, just go for it! No trafficor more traffic, no PR or higher PR, it actually does not affect your satisfaction if you're not into it. Happy Blogging!

Old to New Blog Design and Better Traffic Achieved

After having the "old" layout and design, the WebbieStuff blog has finally changed its image. With the super improved blogger designing tool, the options were too wide for all combination of this blog's new look. It took so much time before your Webbielady was complete with the whole change. This is the downside of having so many choices that choosing has became a task as well. All the same, it was very difficult to achive a better looking blog and to have it does not lose its theme and impact. All the same, the final output, having it in green, is not really satisfying. Maybe soon it will have another look again.

As previously posted, WebbieStuff was on a better traffic quest. In this regard, I would like to thank those who have helped me with my blog traffic: my blog visitors and friends. The Webbiestuff was able to achieve that goal: the traffic rank that your Webbielady has for this blog is far way better than 1 millionth rank. In fact, it is strongly expected that by Monday, week 46, this blog will have a traffic rank of better than 500, 000th place per Alexa.

Webbielady's Traffic Rationale
Indeed, if you can see here, many commented that traffic is only secondary (or even irrelevant) to the idea of blogging. Most noted that they don't care at all. Indeed that is true! We all have different reasons and different goals for our respective blogs.

Having mentioned that we have relative wants and goals, and from your Webbielady who has at least 20 different blogs of various goals, I have to tall that for THIS particular WebbieStuff blog, having a good deal of traffic is one of its main goals.

Thus, whaever your goal in blogging is, just be happy, continue blogging and let's all create a happy and fun virtual community.
