Thankful to the Internet and the World Wide Web

Being the network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks, of local to global scope, that are linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless and optical networking technologies, Internet helped me a lot in my day-to-day activities. I was thinking what to post today and I realize how much dependent am I with the Internet. I purchase and shop through the Internet, I found my job through the Internet, I buy my film subscriptions online, I learn the weather online, study online and communicate with family and friends online, among others. Honestl, although I canlive without, I find it difficult to live without the Internet. All I can say is, I am thankful that during my generation, Internet is an available convenient and affordable service ready to be used!

Viva Internet! Long live and continue serving the humanity! How about you? What can you say about the Internet?

iGoogle: It is such a lovely, powerful ,desirable itool

iGoogle, the personal web portal offered, naturally, by Google just made my day. I am a very satisfied user of this feature offered by Google. Everything I need is in ONE page: my iGoogle page. Are you an iGoogle user too?

First, what is iGoogle? It is actually a feature in Google that is there for years already. It was called the "Google Personalized Homepage" (since creation in 2005) and it was also called"Google IG" but currently, the name, iGoogle (since 2007) sounds more chic. What do you think? All the same, whatever the name would have been,I do love the service offered. iGoogle is user's startpage, it is Ajax-based. Similar services such as this are My Yahoo! and Pageflakes or Netvibes.

So what's with iGoogle? As of 2005 (May), this Google service offers the possibility to add web feeds and Google Gadgets in their iGoogles. 20% of Google visits originate from iGoogle in April 2008... I think at least 10 million people use this service. Are you one of us?

This is my iGoogle. I have all the gadgets that help me with my language learnings, at least a word a day for German, French and Italian. Isn't that cool that I only need to visit a single page to see all these? I have also feeds from CNN, How To of the Day, weather forecast for the my city and time. This is my personalized page, the theme are varied according to your taste and choice.

Here is my iGoogle and why:
This is the first column of my iGoogle. It has the German word of the day with thenominative article (die, der, das) to learn the gender of the word as I learn them. Very useful!
This column also contains the gadget for Italian Ver of the Day. I need them for my continued learning.
Then comes the CNN feed. Well, who doesnot want to learn thebiggest/ latest world news of the day?

For my mid-column of my iGoogle page, I have two different French Word of the Day gadgets. Both of them has sound/pronunciation guide and that is really great. Widening one's vocabulary is never bad!
I have also the Weather Forecast for my city at the bottom.

Nochmal habe ich mein "German Word of the Day" gadget. The thing I don't like about this gadget is that it doesnot have thenominative definite article before the word. Ilike the fact that it has the audio and text for sentence and phrase usage once I expand the gadget.
I have also the Youtube "Best Video", "Most Popular Video" and "Video of the Day" option.
Then I have the clock and the calendar.

WHat do you say about mypage? What's yours?

"Mothers Day" or "Mother's Day" or "Mothers' Day"? Where is the Apostrophe?

mother's day apostrophe and video collectionA trivia I got fron Wikipedia: Mothers' Day, Mothers Day or Mother's Day? Where the apostrophe should be? Or is there an apostrophe at all? Below, it is answered by Wikipedia:
In 1912, Anna Jarvis trademarked the phrases "second Sunday in May" and "Mother's Day", and created the Mother's Day International Association."She was specific about the location of the apostrophe; it was to be a singular possessive, for each family to honour their mother, not a plural possessive commemorating all mothers in the world."This is also the spelling used by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson in the law making official the holiday in the U.S., by the U.S. Congress on bills, and by other U.S. presidents on their declarations.Common usage in English language also dictates that the ostensibly singular possessive "Mother's Day" is the preferred spelling
. Below is a collection of fun Mother's Day videos from Youtube... Have fun watching, mothers and the rest of the world...
